Drive a Ludicrous Car

Wow, that is ludicrous!

Ok full disclosure, I never would have added this to the list if I didn’t have this blog. I guess that makes this blog a success in getting me to try new things that I may never have thought of otherwise. I wrote a post using a Lamborghini as a metaphor, and figured I better actually drive one if I am going to claim some knowledge and use it in the post. For the cost of a bit over $100 and an afternoon I got to see what it was all about. Despite having an engineering background, I am not really a car guy at all. I love Hondas with their great gas mileage and reliability and typically drive mine to somewhere over 200K miles and then get a new one. My car is not a toy to me and I do not care what it looks like. It does, however, have a manual transmission and I do love to drive. Lucky for me, so did this Lambo.

Driving a Lamborghini: a mix of adrenaline an fear

After the handler guy told me that the transmission is about $70K to replace and warned me that any clutch issues would result in needing to flush the transmission fluid to the tune of a few hundred bucks I was thoroughly worried but honestly not that worried because I am pretty awesome on a stick shift and I venture that he gets automatic drivers all the time. Ok cut to the chase here’s what it was like. The car was lowered so that I had about 3 inches of road clearance and I sat about 6 inches above the road. I primed the fuel injectors and when I started it I was quickly reminded that this car has 6 more cylinders than my accord. It was super responsive and I did get a chance to open it up a bit which was a rush. It was also crazy because with such low road clearance I had to be looking and planning ahead for anything in the road (kind of like when driving a motorcycle) to avoid crunching the front end. The low ride was fun though and ripping around so close to the road was totally different. When I got done driving it I was kind of jacked but I couldn’t tell if it was the adrenaline from the drive or the relief that I didn’t crash or damage the thing. My verdict is that this was fun and I’d love to have a friend who owned this car and let me drive it every once in awhile. I can still downshift and burn past most cars on the road in my accord while freeing up my discretionary money and time. I kind of don’t worry about getting around, maintenance, theft, or where to safely park my car and that means freedom for me. Zoom Zoom y’all 😉
