The World’s Worst Article

by Life Outside The Maze

I try to drop high quality knowledge on this site, but I just wrote a really bad article.  It was hard to write and that should have been my first clue.  I’ll let you in on a secret.  With some pleading and puppy dog eyes, I usually get Mrs Maze  to read everything that you see here before it goes live.  Usually she just responds, “yeah, it’s pretty good.”  This time however, she paused, “ummm, the writing was good but…uh…what was the point?”  I started to explain but quickly stopped.  It was the only job of the article to make the point and it had obviously failed.  In fact, it was so weak that I just decided to junk it all together.  After all, I have high standards on your behalf….clearly.

The worst part was that I had no article ready now when I need one.  Way over across the internet, I had a guest interview going live the next day.  I was sharing some of the things that I would have done differently on the road to financial independence in a solid interview with Jess and Cory over at the Fioneers.  Now I had no way to give a shout out for others to check out that article and in truth it is way better than the article I had just junked.

That’s not the only thing either. I had a really good discussion coming out on the Earn & Invest Podcast later the same week called Programming Your Mind For Wealth. It is about the need for optimism especially during these tough times. I listened to a sneak preview and humbly felt that it was the greatest podcast of all time…or at least of the week. I wanted to shout from the rooftops to all of you that you can listen to it right here (or wherever you get you podcasts) when it goes live on 9/3/20!!! Now I couldn’t do that either.

When You Have Nothing To Say, Keep Silent

Without an article for this week I was kind of frustrated but I remembered the mission of why I started Life Outside The Maze in the first place. I did it because I wrote a manifesto that changed my life. It became the first 10 posts of this site and 4 categories emerged: Achieving Financial Independence, Building Happiness, Successful Habits, and Adventure / Travel. As of now, this site has been running for a couple of years and by my own design it has made exactly $0.00 income. I did not start writing to take over the world or to make any money. Hence, if I didn’t have anything great to share perhaps I should just not do an article this week. But then how could I get the word out about that Fioneers guest article and my most excellent episode on Earn & Invest?

The World’s Best Article

I felt that if I was going to post I needed something more to offer those reading.  “Aha!” I yelled silently in my own head.  A friend once told me that the guest posts that you do on other sites and podcasts should be some of your best content because it is an introduction to what you are all about. Ideally it should be the world’s best article.  I have done several guest pieces but I had no link to all of this gold on my own site.  Perhaps I could create a page linking to all of these great guest spots that I had done on other sites and podcasts.  This would add huge value to my lackluster filler article and introduce a new tab on the home page menu called “As Seen On.”

I think I’ll try it and see if Mrs Maze gives it the green light…
